Manufactured especially for Ostralos, these exceptional sutures are becoming highly popular, with a number of top New Zealand surgeons already using the Dolphin brand.
Catgut is an absorbable suture composed of high purified connective tissue derived from either beef or sheep intestine. The membrane is chemically treated and slender strands are woven together to form a suture. The grinding process creates a strand of uniform diameter. The suture strand is then further polished to achieve maximum smoothness, for reliability and strength. Plain catgut usually has a shorter absorption period than chromic gut, and is absorbed more rapidly in infected areas.
Progut is excellent for surgical and non-surgical extraction sites. It usually holds the wound for 5-7 days and is resorbed by 10 days.
