Manufactured especially for Ostralos, these exceptional sutures are becoming highly popular, with a number of New Zealand surgeons already using the Dolphin brand.
Petcryl Fast suture is a braided and coated synthetic absorbable surgical suture. It is a co-polymer of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactice (Polyglactin 910). Petcryl Fast sutures are coated with equal parts of a copolymer of lactide and glactide with calcium stearate. Calcium stearate is a salt of calcium and stearic adic. This mixture forms an absorbable, adherent, non-flaking libricant ideal for suture. All these components are water repelling which slows tissue fluid penetration into the suture.
Polyglactin sutures are found to be non-antigentic and non-pyrogenic, eliciting only mild tissue reactivity during the absorption process.
Distinctive characteristics
- Coated in order to create a smoother synthetic absorbable suture that will pass through tissue readily
- Precise knot placement (as compared with PGA suture)
- Predictable absorption by simple hydrolytic mechanism
- A decreased tendency to irritate tissue
- Good tensile strength
Needle: 3/8 circle, reverse cutting, 19mm
